Surgery robots have been around for a while. They are already being used for minimally invasive surgeries. Researchers at Nottingham Trent University are taking it to the next level by building a robot that can perform spinal surgery. The system consists of datum and tooling robots.
These robots can be locked to a particular vertebrae and drill on either side where surgeons would place the pedicle screws. Professor Philip Breedon and his team are behind this system.
