DRAGON: Shape-shifting Aerial Robot

😎 New DIY robot kits

Drones are capable of taking on many tasks. They are not always able to get through small openings though. Researchers at JSK Lab at the University of Tokyo have developed a flying robot, called DRAGON that changes its shape mid-air to pass through horizontal openings.

Design, Modeling and Control of Aerial Robot DRAGON

DRAGON can autonomously decide how to change given the space it has to pass through. It consists of linked modules with a pair of ducted fan thrusters. The above video shows these robots in action.
