Magnetically actuated soft robots are nothing new. Most require an external magnetic field to generate motion. This video shows an electromagnetically actuated soft robot that carries its own magnet to move. It retracts and repels the magnet to generate motion, with its feet transforming this motion into forward locomotion.
This soft robot can achieve speeds of 31.3mm/s. More information is available on the Faboratory at Yale University’s YouTube channel.
