
This is the DSTAR: a reconfigurable crawling robot that can roll sideways and crawl to overcome different obstacles. As the researchers explain, this robot has a “sprawling mechanism that allows the wheel rotation axes to vary relative to the body, and two independently activated four-bar extension mechanisms (FBEM).” Thanks to this approach, this robot can move its center of mass in any direction.
