Robots Now Teaching Themselves To See

In the future, robots will teach themselves and other robots new skills. Plenty of researchers are working on perfecting these ideas.  Dense Object Nets explores the idea of enabling robots teaching themselves to see. The robot views the object from many angles and sees it as as series of points forming a coordinate system, which is produced by a neural network.

Using such an approach, robots can pick and place objects in any configuration.
