Here is an advanced prosthetic limb with artificial vision that can see objects to determine their shape and size and adapt. It allows wearers to grasp and pick up differently shaped objects without even thinking. As Newcastle University Researchers explain, the bionic hand supports 4 different grasps:
palm wrist neutral (such as when you pick up a cup); palm wrist pronated (such as picking up the TV remote); tripod (thumb and two fingers) and pinch (thumb and first finger).
The prosthesis has a camera to see objects, pick the appropriate grasp, and send a signal to the brain. The ultimate goal is to develop a connected bionic limb with two-way communication with the brain.
