Here are ball-shaped robots that can land safely from a 600ft drop to perform tasks in disaster zones. Engineers at UC Berkeley and Squishy Robotics developed them with a network of rods linked by cables. They can change shape too.
These robots come with sensors to gather data about their environment. The above video shows one in action.
