Scrubbing surfaces can be a demanding task. You need enough friction to remove any stubborn contamination. It can be achieved with pressure and torque or high lateral force. SCCRUB is designed to address the limitations of rigid robotic manipulators. It can safely work around humans and adapt to challenging conditions while applying torque and pressure to get rid of challenging residues.
As the researchers explain, they trained a:
” neural network to learn the arm’s inverse kinematics and elasticity, which enables open-loop force and position control. Using this learned model, the robot successfully scrubbed burnt food residue from a plate and sticky fruit preserve from a toilet seat, removing an average of 99.7% of contamination.”
