Hopping robots are nothing new. We have covered a bunch of them that move faster and overcome obstacles. This high-payload robotic hopper is powered by bidirectional thrusters. It can carry payloads up to 9 times its own weight. It can carry 2kg of load while hopping. This robot generates thrust upward and downward for better energy management while hopping. It has a quadrotor and passive telescopic leg.
The robot leaped over a high obstacle and performed autonomous navigation while carrying a 730g LiDAR. This approach can be used for mapping in challenging environments.
