Flying winged drones in close proximity to obstacles while avoiding accidents is not always easy. EPFL researchers have come up with inspect-inspired protective wings for these types of drones. These Robotic Elytra feature an additional set of retractable wings that rapidly cover the main folding wings when protection is needed. The below video shows how this works:
