Meet the PufferBot: a flying robot with an expandable structure that changes shape to protect its propeller around obstacles or around humans. It has a 3D printed scissor structure with a 1DOF actuator with rack & pinion mechanism. The approach enables these drones to fly while taking less damage in case of a collision.
