Your Android smartphone already has a powerful processor and set of sensors that can be used to build a robot. Take the PhoneBot for instance. It has 13 motorized joints and uses an Android phone as its brain. It can walk and recover from a fall. The phones’ camera, IMU and processing power are used for vision and locomotion control.
This robot uses 13 DYNAMIXEL actuators. It runs on a 3S battery. Its application supports visual tracking, SLAM, and locomotion policy inference. CAD files, mechanical exports, bill of materials, and assembly documentation are expected to be released under CC BY-NC 4.0 license.
