There are plenty of fancy 3D metal printers around but many of them require a support structure. In cooperation with KUKA, HS Automation has come up with a solution for metal additive printing. They used KR IONTec robots and a turn-tilt table that move in sync with the robot arm. The robot arm uses a Meltio printer head with 6 welding lasers to get the job done.
With this approach, it is possible to produce complex metal parts efficiently. It reduces metal waste in comparison to milling. This metal printer can build objects with wall thickness of 2mm. You can find out more here.
