The Mayflower Autonomous Ship has finally launched. It is an AI and solar powered research vessel that is expected to travel across oceans to gather environmental data. MAS has an AI captain built by ProMare and IBM developers. It allows the ship to sense, think, and make decisions at sea with no human intervention.
MAS will spend the next 6 months in sea trials. This level 5 autonomous ship has max speed of 10 knots. It has 700kg capacity. It is propelled by a solar-driven hybrid electric motor. More information is available here.
