Climbing robots have a couple of advantages over rovers. They can access areas not possible for regular robots. They can climb walls and get over steep obstacles. Take LORIS for instance: it is a free-climbing robot with passive grippers and wrist joints to grasp securely. Forces are distributed among its grippers strategically to reduce risk of unexpected detachment.
