In the past few years, we have seen plenty of quadruped robots that can negotiate uneven terrain. Climbing ladders can be a bit more complicated though. Researchers from Tokyo Metropolitan University and Okayama University have come up with a new approach that enables quadruped robots to climb ladders.

Quadruped Robots Can Climb Ladders Now

The quadruped robot is equipped with an IMU and time-of-flight 3D camera in addition to touch & force sensors on its claws. An Intel NUC computer is used as the main unit with Arduino as a secondary controller. The robot has 23 degrees of freedom.
