Harvesting robots are getting smarter all the time. EPFL researchers are using a silicone raspberry to make them even smarter. Raspberries are difficult to harvest due to their delicate structure. CREATE engineers have designed a silicone raspberry that can tell the robot how much pressure is applied. Its properties can be adjusted to simulate the fruits’ resistance.

With this feedback, robots learn how to harvest raspberries without damaging them. This system consists of a gripper with 2 x 3D printed fingers attached to a robotic arm. You can find out more about it here.
