Nature is full of examples of creatures flying or moving through narrow spaces, so it makes sense that researchers are inspired by those creatures to improve drones. GapFlyt is an active vision based gap detection for drones that enables them to fly through unknown gaps using onboard sensors and a camera.

The researchers managed to reach a success rate of 85% at 2.5m/s. You can find out more about this project here.
