There are multiple ways to teach robots new skills. New ways are always being explored by experts though. Chinese Researchers are teach robots how to carry out tasks by demonstrating them in virtual reality. The operator sees objects through the robot’s camera and relies on a HTC Vive system to show the machine what to do.
