Plenty of prosthetic legs on the market can’t adapt to different surfaces easily. Vanderbilt’s smart robotic ankle aims to change that. It relies on a motor, sensors, chip, and actuator to conform to the surface the foot is contacting.

Thanks to this robotic ankle, users can walk up and down slopes and stairs. It uses an actuator to simulate human leg muscles. The above video shows this prosthetic device in action.
