Robots are going to do many things for us. To pick up objects of varying sizes and shapes, they are going to need versatile grippers. A University of Washington team have created custom 3D printed grippers to enable machines to pick up more things. Their system can design a 3D printable passive gripper and calculate the best path to pick up an object. The below video shows what this project was all about:
