3D Printable Hydraulic Robots Using Solid/Liquid Materials

Here are 3D printed robots made of both solid and liquid materials that can be programmed to perform tasks. As researchers at MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) explain, these dynamic robots are 3D printed in a single step and do not require any assembly.

These robots can be printed fast and in a more affordable fashion. They can be printed in different sizes and shapes. Here is how the team demonstrated this method:

researchers 3-D printed a small hexapod robot that weighs about 1.5 pounds and is less than 6 inches long. To move, a single DC motor spins a crankshaft that pumps fluid to the robot’s legs. Aside from its motor and power supply, every component is printed in a single step with no assembly required.
