This Drone Uses AI To Create Perfect Shots

Drones are getting better and smarter all the time. The latest models let you capture aerial video like a real pro. As NVIDIA has covered, it is possible to combine drones with AI to create the perfect cinematic shots every time. Researchers from the Carnegie Mellon University and Yamaha Motor in Japan developed a deep learning system that creates smooth, safe trajectories for aerial filming.

For this project, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 GPUs with the cuDNN-accelerated PyTorch deep learning framework were used. The team trained a convolutional neural network on about 70k images to enable off-the-shelf drones with an NVIDIA Jetson TX2 to forecast actor motion and plan a smooth trajectory accordingly.
